Well finally after years of neglect and laziness I have ditched the old
website completely and starting fresh with this new one. The old site
was a basic html site and because of the way it was designed it was
becoming a major job just to up date the latest photos and the links
from other album pages. It also had no design in it to easily add comments to photos. Anyway I am now using an open source server sided Content Management System (CMS) called Joomla (previously Mambo) to manage the content on this site. In addition I am using an open source photo gallery (Gallery 2) which is embedded into Joomla via a gallery bridge. Both programs are php based and utilise an SQL database each on the web server. This allows me the flexability to change things at will, create searches, have a user database, have secure areas on the site accessable to different groups and the list goes on. Also I can administer, make any changes, or anything I like to the site from any computer anywhere in the world at any time. (note to author - better start travelling!!) So whats it all mean -
Future development as time permits is to add much more content including news letters from family members, putting all our old photos back on and giving information about the photos (big job), links to news, weather, intersting sites and quotes of the day.
